Keep it in perspective

This section is all about maintaining a positive perspective while developing the business opportunity and building a great organization.

Building a business is a long journey that takes place through time.

Inevitably there will be obstacles & difficulties along the way.

That is just the nature of the game.

People use a lot of words to describe what it takes to be successful in business: resilience, determination, persistence and tenacity are often cited examples.

We believe it too, but an effective approach to dealing with obstacles is a big advantage. When a business owner is working with strategies that aren’t getting results the words above don’t really help. If someone is beating their head against the wall it’s not a good idea to tell them that they just need to be more determined about it.

It’s been said that experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want. That’s only half the story. Experience is not just running into obstacles, it’s getting beyond them.

There are lots of modules in the ROCK SOLID Program that deal with overcoming specific business obstacles. This section takes a global view of dealing with obstacles in general.

Developing an uncommon strength here will serve you well.

The good news is that it is just another set of skills and abilities that almost anyone can learn.

Thinking positive has its limitations.

Having said that, thinking positively greatly enhances your chances of success.

Thinking negatively surely doesn’t work.

We’ve all met people who are in the habit of seeing problems for every solution. We’ve also met people who see solutions for every problem, although many of their solutions won’t work in the real world. Effective business owners are somewhere in the middle of this spectrum.

The key is to keep holding a perspective where you are confident in the future of the business opportunity and are prepared to work through the obstacles. As you get beyond the current set of obstacles, another will appear. The idea is to approach the next set with a renewed sense of confidence.

At ROCK SOLID we’ve observed many businesses stall until the obstacles are clearly identified.

It is easy to start thinking:

there are no good employees available, customers have absolutely no loyalty today, employees have no loyalty, the market is soft, nobody makes good profits in this industry and/or my prospects don’t understand value, they buy on price. If you believe any of the above it’s also easy to find a lot of people who will agree with you. You can choose to jump on their train of thought, but it’s likely not headed in the direction you want.

A better option is to view business as a game with obstacles on the field of play.

Combine that with a belief that it is important for your business to succeed because it will add value to your life and also deliver good value to your customers. Now you have a great perspective to go forward with.

From there you can see that most businesses face the same type of Problems, Issues and Challenges that you do. This is not a good thing or a bad thing. It is just part of the game.

ROCK SOLID’s program and coaches have a unique & effective perspective on the challenges that business owners face. We are trained to see things that others don’t and our approach will make your business building journey more profitable & enjoyable. We have a lot of the right kind of experience.

There are 8 modules in this section.

Below is a short summary of the Problem Solving module.

ROCK SOLID’s 4 Levels of Problem Solving.

Level 1
Unaware, denial, hide it, ignore it and/or hope it goes away or solves itself.

Level 2
Complain about it, accept that you can’t fix it. Blame it on others.

Level 3
Identify it, define it, offer solutions and initiate positive discussions.

Level 4
Identify it, define it, frame it, initiate positive discussions, evaluate solutions, take action and follow through until it is successfully resolved.

Which level does your business typically operate at?

How would it impact your company if everyone moved up to Levels 3 & 4?

The interesting thing about this approach is that psychologically people don’t like to be tagged as Level 1 or 2. Employees that come to realize that they operate at those levels will almost always want to move up to protect their self image.

This module, almost alone, has moved businesses from substantial losses and pending bankruptcy on to profitable futures.

There are lots of interesting modules here that are designed to keep business owners thinking realistically, productively and positively. There is no doubt that the right mindset leads to success.

  • Be - Do - Have
  • Centering
  • Change Management
  • Small Business Conundrum
