We don’t believe in time management
You can’t manage time!
No matter how hard you try there will be 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and 52 weeks in a year.
This is often one of a coach's early challenges with new clients.
More and more books are being written on time management while people seem to have less and less time. Perhaps it’s time to take a look at the problem from a different angle.
The curious thing about time are that you have tt do something with it:
you can’t save an hour and spend it later and
amazingly each year everybody gets the same amount of hours.
Many owners are putting huge hours into their business.
They’ve been told that this is what it takes to succeed and it may be true, but it’s best not to buy into this myth for the long term.
There are strategies to gain control and get better results.
Our experience has taught us that these vary from business to business and owner to owner. The one thing that we know for sure is that there are solutions.
Sometimes the time the business takes up expands to meet the amount of time that the owner makes available to it. It is kind of like the amount of stuff we own expands to meet the size of the house we live in. Putting limits in and/or booking alternate activities often results in more effective use of time.
It also depends on the size of the business.
As size of the staff grows, the owner’s time in the business should be able to decrease. If you have added employees and are working harder then something is off track somewhere.
In fact, the idea of business is to build an organization that delivers the value so the owner doesn’t have to work so hard.
Really it all boils down to this.
We all have time to invest; what we get in return for our investment is up to us. You have to be prepared to ask yourself:
“What do I want in return for my investment of time?”
If you want to build a ROCK SOLID Business then there are actions that will lead in that direction.
We have some really interesting exercises that focus owners and employees alike on the key success factors. The outside perspective of our professional ROCK SOLID Business Coaches often reveals some interesting insights.
